Philosophy of Ministry
As a community of believers, we will support our life together with a focus on individual and corporate wholeness, and work together to strength our relationships through small groups and broader fellowship opportunities.
Principles that guide our ministry:
- Our life together is our witness - finding ways to celebrate, mourn, and mark significant events in our lives, showing that we need and value each other.
- The church body best cares for itself by promoting healthy relationships through diverse multigenerational settings, where all ages can be cared for in a lifelong, holistic manner.
- How we care for ourselves demonstrates that we believe that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made," created in God's image, and respectful of our own bodies.
- How we care for each other demonstrates that we are respectful of those in our church community.
Pastoral Care
Pastors regularly relate to members and attendees who are hospitalized, those who are ill, in crisis or dying. Pastors are available for emergencies via an emergency on-call line.
Pastoral Care Visitors provide ongoing visitation to those who are homebound, aging, convalescing or have other special needs. They also provide grief care in the first year after the death of a loved one. Pastoral care visitors are called by the Community Life Commission for this intentional volunteer ministry. The Pastoral Care Visitors team meets every other month for equipping and supporting one
another. Pastor Pamela relates with this team.

Stephen Ministry provides confidential one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministers go through an application process and receive 50 hours of initial training, as well as ongoing supervision and continuing education. People ages eighteen years and older can be cared for through Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers only meet with one person at a time.
Fellowship
Congregational fellowship events each year typically include two or three carry-in dinners, three or four fellowship times in the second hour following Sunday morning worship, an Easter breakfast, occasional receptions for special occasions and other special events.
- Sunday Morning Coffee - Most Sundays, before and after the worship service, coffee is available for congregants and visitors in the fellowship hall.
- First Wednesdays @ CMC - The first Wednesday evening of each month from September-November and February, March & May, all are invited to gather for a potluck meal at 6:00 pm. Community Life Commission will plan an intergenerational activity for attenders. The CMC Chorale, Genesis (6-8th grade) and MYF (9-12th grade) youth will gather from 7:00-8:00 pm.
End of Life Care
We help arrange hosts and ushers for funeral/memorial services, and meals surrounding the services and visitations. We relate to the Memorial Garden committee which oversees/attends to the vision, administrative tasks and maintenance of the Memorial Garden.
Small Groups
Neighborhood Groups: CMC participants are organized into geographical neighborhoods of 15-35 members. Neighborhood groups meet four times a year, usually in February, May, August, and November. Households become acquainted with each other and seek to be alert to needs within the neighborhood. These groups often organize funeral visitation meals if someone in the neighborhood group has died.
CMC Teas & Communion Gatherings - Approximately 3-4 times per year, gatherings are planned at different retirement & healthcare settings for fellowship and communion. We try to offer such gatherings at both Greencroft & Waterford Crossing assisted living facilities; Greencroft-Juniper Place, Manor IV, Manor II/III, Courts; while we schedule individual visits with those in healthcare settings like Majestic, Restoracy, The Maples & Greencroft Healthcare
Support Groups: We seek to be sensitive to other needs among congregational members, facilitating meetings of a variety of support groups, forming new groups as needs arise.
