Families

I Timothy 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you.”
We approach faith formation through the lens of family ministry. Whether by birth or by choice, families make faith flourish.  We want to help you find family and strengthen the family you already have as we as your church family surround you in the love of God.

Theology of Family Ministry

Growing Roots

A culturally and ethnically diverse Sunday school class, consisting mostly of young families and young adults, with a simple goal: to grow in Christ together. Growing Roots topics and events have included:

  • Building healthy family relationships
  • Celebrating seasons and holidays of the church year (Lent, Advent, Easter, Feast of Tabernacles…)
  • Equipping families to nurture faith at home
  • Reading Bible stories in sync with the children’s Sunday school curriculum and discussing their importance in daily life
  • Prayer practices
  • Dealing with death
  • Potlucks!
  • Making music together

Building Faith

Our Pastors for Christian Formation, Daniel Yoder and Talashia Keim Yoder, provide the content for a website called Building Faith (a ministry of Mennonite Early Childhood Network).  This resource provides scripture-based faith practices for families that coincide with the church and seasonal year.

God’s Story, God’s Song

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we (like everyone else) knew we had to reimagine faith formation. Holy Week was fast approaching and we decided to put our normal church activities into a home-based format. When we learned that other churches were looking for a resource like ours, we quickly made it available by creating a website called God's Story, God's Song. This home-based, all-age, flexible resource is available for individuals and churches who want to learn and explore the biblical story from Genesis to Revelation. There are 52 sessions in this series, making it easily applied to one year. Each session focuses on one story or story series, with songs, discussion prompts, and the opportunity to respond with a project.
